Spring 2020 Exams
In response to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, London College of Music Examinations is offering recorded alternatives in order to assess the work candidates have prepared for the Spring 2020 exam session.
This basically allows pupils to be recorded instead of doing a face-to-face exam. The on-line exam covers all the elements that would appear in a normal graded exam. If you choose this option, I will talk you through the specifics, but you have already covered everything in your lessons. The good news is that we no longer need to learn any new pieces in order to prepare for an alternative performance award.
Pupils can upload the videos themselves from home. I would however recommend waiting until I can film these. The requirements are quite specific about camera and audio quality. There are also certain scales and chords that need to be played. There are also some specific questions that need to be answered verbally while being recorded. I think it would be a smoother process if I guided pupils through this rather than trying to meet the requirements and record themselves. The recording of the exam will take place at my home even if you normally have lessons in your own home.
LCM have said that this needs to be completed by the 15th of May. This presents an issue as social distancing measures have been enforced until the 6th of May at least. I do however believe that these measures are likely to be relaxed and we should be able to proceed as follows:
1 hr face to face lesson at an agreed time between the 7th-9th May (This will be deducted from your current credit or you will be billed for the equivalent of two 30 min lessons.) This will allow us to run through the exam format).
Recording of exam between the 11th -13th of May. I am allowing 1 hr this. There will be no charge and LCM require no further payment as you have already paid for the Spring 2020 submission.
Please contact me on 07841163179 letting me know how you wish to proceed. If you want to use this option, we can prepare for this via your on-line lesson as well as the face to face lesson scheduled in May. Please contact me letting me know if your choosing to wait for face to face exams to become available.
- What happens if social distancing regulations prevent us from using this option?
Answer: We will simply wait until the next available exam. If this happens I might be able to request an examiner for all my pupils before the normal Christmas exams, and arrange a venue.
2.What happens if I want to wait for a face to face exam?
Answer: No problem! We will simply wait for the next available exam.
